I’m reading Organic Church by Neil Cole and he poses an interesting question: What is a Church?
So I’m asking: In your opinion/thought what is a church? What defines it? What is required to have a church?
I appreciate your thoughts.

A church to me, is any body of believers (or seekers) who are seeking God. The group of believers in any body though should seek to exemplify many of Christ’s qualities, mostly love. (which, I think is often missed)

Where Christ is present even if there are only 2 or 3 gathered together. Essential that the Spirit of Jesus is present and His followers meet to worship, praise God, pray and share together–

Jaded and Jean…thanks for the comments. So why not call our “bible studies” churches? Jean, I like that you mention the presence of Jesus…but we often stop there. Would the disciples have ever been caught meeting with Jesus, but being too talkative and active that Jesus never really got to say anything? I doubt it! Interesting…

I’d say that theoretically they are a “church”….however society or humans have completely warped what church really should be, even down to it’s entire definition. I think at some point, someone got what they thought church should be just slightly off from what was intended, and this trend of “slightly off” continued. Until thousands of years later, we have the monstrosity that is today. A presence that does more harm than it does good quite honestly. (Yes, there are minor exceptions)
